Safety Data Sheets(SDS) or Material Safety Data Sheets(MSDS), who cares? And who should?

Uncategorized

Well, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires that chemical manufacturer, distributor or the importer should care about these Safety Data Sheets(SDS) which were earlier known as Materials Safety Data Sheets(MSDS). They are required to provide these Safety Data Sheets to ensure that the personnel involved in handling the hazardous chemicals understand and know the material they are dealing with and take precautionary actions during transporting, shipping, handling to avoid any accidents. So what information do these data sheets hold exactly? The Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200(g)) provides the details and here we try to summarize the 16 sections of SDS along with the details on what piece of information the section hold. Note: The information presented here is high level and for basic understanding only and may be obsolete. For details on the sections or for help with creation of SDS, please talk to us/other professionals or visit the OSHA briefing website here

  • Chemical Name/identifier
  • Contact Info of Supplier
  • Recommended Uses

Section 2 :Hazards Identification
